MP Marks Holocaust Memorial Day

Adrian Bailey MP showed his commitment to Holocaust Memorial this weekend by attending an event at the Memorial Gardens in West Bromwich. The annual event, which is aimed to honour the 6million people killed in the Holocaust and individuals that risked their lives to help those being persecuted, lasted for 45 minutes and was attended by local MPs, councillors, ex-servicemen and the general public.

As part of the thousands of events being held across the country West Bromwich commemorated the day with a small and personal service where Adrian lit a candle to remember those who suffered at the hands of the Nazis during the Holocaust and in more recent genocides. Ultimately the aim of the day is to motivate people – individually and collectively, to ensure that the horrendous crimes, racism and victimization committed during the Holocaust and subsequent genocides are neither forgotten nor repeated again.

The annual day of remembrance was attended by both West Bromwich MPs, Adrian Bailey and Tom Watson, and by West Bromwich West councillors Maria Crompton, Derek Rowley, Sayeeda Khatun, Ahmadel Haque, Mahboob Hussain, Ian Jones, Elizabeth Giles, Elaine Giles, George Turton, Bob Evans and Pete Allen.

Speaking after the event Adrian said: β€˜It is important that we do not take our democracy and civil liberties for granted. Events like the Holocaust Memorial day help remind us that our freedoms had to be fought for and offers us an opportunity to remember those who did so and those who were victims of racial prejudice and intolerance.’
