Adrian calls for more Government support for British manufacturing

Adrian has today spoken at the launch of a high value manufacturing exhibition in Westminster to call for more Government support for British manufacturing.

The exhibition highlights the work being done at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Sheffield. The AMRC is the result of collaboration between world-leaders in the aerospace supply chain, such as Boeing and Rolls-Royce, key government offices and international academic institutions, and is recognised as a world leader in engineering research.

A Rolls-Royce fan-set, seen above, stood in front of the Houses of Parliament as a visible reminder of the importance of UK manufacturing with the fan blades made in Lancashire, assembled in Derby and sold on Rolls-Royce engines globally.

Adrian spoke at the launch of the exhibition and said:

“I welcome the intention of the Government to set up similar centres across the country, and to develop this approach where industry and universities work together to promote manufacturing.

Manufacturing is vital to both our country’s economic stability and to our potential to achieve growth. It generates £140 billion a year, accounting for 55% of total UK exports- but it has considerable greater potential, and the Government needs to recognise this and introduce the measures the manufacturing industry so desperately needs to grow.

It is clear that collaborative efforts like AMRC are needed to promote actions to strengthen the UK manufacturing supply chain and to encourage urgent investment into high quality training and education.”
