Adrian speaks out over reckless NHS reorganisation

With the Conservative-led Government set to borrow a staggering £158 billion more than planned, thanks to the costs of growing unemployment and low growth, the last thing government should be doing is throwing away money.

That’s why I am so angry about the on-going farce which is the Government’s Health and Social Care Bill. They need to drop the Bill now.

Before his plans are even fully through Parliament, David Cameron’s reorganisation is hitting the NHS hard.  Primary Care Trusts are to hold back £3.44 billion from the NHS frontline over two years, taking the cost of the NHS reorganisation above the £2-3 billion estimate for the first time.

The local NHS here in Sandwell has put aside almost £23 Million from their budget this year and next to pay for a costly NHS restructure. With money siphoned off like that, it’s not surprising waiting times are on the rise.

Spending this amount on an unnecessary reorganisation is totally unjustifiable when every single penny should be focused on maintaining standards of care.

Before the General Election, David Cameron said there would be no more top-down reorganisations of the NHS. He also said that he would “cut the deficit, not the NHS”. But we know that in his first year as Prime Minister, David Cameron cut spending on the NHS. Day by day, it is becoming increasingly clear that you can’t trust the Tories with the NHS.
