Building Schools for the Future

Local MP Welcomes Government Plans to Further Invest in Sandwell Schools

Adrian Bailey MP today welcomed the Governments proposals to further invest in new school buildings and facilities through the Government’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

The BSF program in Sandwell is part of a national programme which has seen a transformation in school buildings across the country. With 86 BSF schools now open – up from 42 open in December 2008, and an estimated 115 schools to open in 2009-10 and a further 165 in 2010-11, it is expected that with current funding the vast majority of local authorities will finish their projects by 2020, with the remaining areas in the final stages of renewing their estate.

Speaking on the building schools for the future plans Adrian Bailey said:

“I welcome the BSF’s investment in schools in my constituency, in Sandwell and across the country. All students in Sandwell are entitled to an innovative and personalized curriculum, with teaching professionals guiding and supporting learning.

“BSF is more than just a building programme. It is the chance to transform secondary education for generations to come. This plan encourages buildings that reflect the diversity of the curriculum and use the most up to date information and communications technology”.

“Not only will the Government investment transform the education of children in Sandwell, it will also support local jobs and businesses, particularly in the construction industry.”

For more information about the programme please consult the BSF website.
