Fox Hunting is Not OK

Adrian Bailey MP was today outraged by proposals being considered by the Conservative Party on the fox hunting ban. At a time of two wars and a deteriorating economy with many people losing their jobs, is this repeal of a ban really necessary?

As you may be aware, in 2004 the Labour Party passed a bill which banned the cruel sport of fox hunting. This bill has led the way in 56 convictions and has saved many helpless animals from an unfortunate death.

In a recent speech, David Cameron made it a point to endorse fox hunting and even said that it will be on the agenda to bring it back if there is a Conservative Government in power. David Cameron has pledged valuable Government time on a bill to abolish the ban on fox hunting as a priority.

Nick Herbert, Tory Shadow Defra Secretary, has appeared to indicate a Conservative Government would introduce Government legislation to repeal the ban and create “some kind of regulatory authority” and to police their proposed law.

The Hunting Act of 2004 has proven to be successful, with results showing a drastic decrease in the hunting of these precious animals. Killing should not be considered a sport. A repeal of this ban will only indicate the cruelty of the Tories’ future policy making.

The Labour Party is proud of its efforts and success to ban hunting with dogs. They will be campaigning alongside animal welfare organizations against the Tories’ proposed re-introduction of this cruel practice.

To help make sure people know that the Tories are making a strong effort to repeal the ban on fox hunting a priority, the Labour Party is running an online petition. Please visit http://www.backtheban.com and help stop this inhumane act become legal.
