MP Commends Commitment and Dedication of Teaching Staff Adrian Bailey MP has commended the commitment and dedication of local teachers in raising school standards across his constituency of West Bromwich West. Writing personally to every primary and secondary school in his constituency, Adrian Bailey MP thanked local staff for “their hard work and commitment to the children of Sandwell.” In his annual Christmas letter, the MP for West Bromwich West wrote: “because of your dedication we are already seeing a bright future in these children. You and your staff have provided the right tools in order to make sure the children are given the best education as possible, and for this we owe tremendous gratitude for your hard work.” In his final speech of 2009 in the House of Parliament, Mr Bailey also referred to the quiet transformation in education that was taking place in Sandwell. Speaking on the final day of Parliament, he said: “We have seen an enormous amount of investment in education in local schools. It has risen by some 50 per cent in real terms since 1997, and that has been reflected in achievement. The number of pupils obtaining five good GCSEs has almost doubled. The number at key stage 1 achieving level 5 in English and maths has risen by a third, and the number achieving that level at key stage 2 in English, maths and science has risen by two thirds. Meanwhile, the number of students entering higher education has risen by nearly 27 per cent.” Speaking today, Mr Bailey added: “It is important that we recognise the commitment and dedication of teachers in transforming our local community. Without their hard work in our community we would not be seeing these changes in our local education system. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them again for everything they do to support our youngsters.”
